About the event
The Lower 9th Ward Multi-Purpose Market aims to provide a vibrant community hub hosted on the parking lot of Light City Church & former Light Christian Academy building. This market brings together local farmers, vendors and artisans to offer diverse products, celebrating local culture and sustainability.
Visitors can explore a variety of stalls featuring fresh, locally-grown produce, handmade crafts, and delicious homemade goods. Unique vendors offer organic vegetables, farm-fresh eggs, artisanal cheeses, and an assortment of baked treats. The market also supports local artists and craftsmen who present handmade jewelry, pottery, textiles, and other creative products.-
Activities and Workshops:
The Recycle Challenge and its programs (along with several collectives) , are housed in the school of the former Light Christian Academy. The market will feature workshops and demonstrations, educating visitors on composting, recycling, and urban gardening. Additional workshops range from financial support, crafting with cardboard to create a hat, to an introduction to basic canning of blueberries, and more. These activities further enrich the community's knowledge and commitment to a greener lifestyle.

On-Site Drop-Off Recycle Station: Bring your already bagged, boxed and cleaned or washed grocery bags, paper bags, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, candy wrappers, plastic spoons, etc.
We are accepting clean clothing and shoes for women.
Limited Resource Room: Visit our starting recycle resource room we collect over sixty different types of recyclables that may be perfect for an art project and costume.
Crafting Station: Our team introduces concepts around crafting with recycled materials. We craft cardboard hats and costumes.
Overall, we celebrate introducing the Lower 9th Ward Farmers Market, offering programming that fosters economic growth, community spirit, and environmental awareness.
